Department of the
Navy expands engagement with HiSoftware
Company to assist in addressing Section
508 initiatives for the LIFELines
Services Network Web Enabled J2EE
Platform.
Concord, NH—May 29,
2003 – HiSoftware Company announced
today that the Department of the Navy
will be expanding its engagement with
HiSoftware Company professional services
and its use of HiSoftware Company’s
software to manage the Section 508
testing and compliance monitoring for
its award winning LIFELines Services
Network (LSN) web enabled J2EE platform.
Through this agreement, both HiSoftware
Company’s software solutions and
technical consulting services will be
utilized to create synchronized
multimedia captioning for LIFELines Web
content in accordance with the
accessibility policy and standards
required for Web Sites under the
Rehabilitation Act Section 508.
The portal, which is
scheduled for a re-deployment this
spring at www.lifelines.navy.mil, was
inaugurated by the Secretary of the Navy
and senior DoD officials in January 1999
as a web-based access and delivery
system that reinvented the Quality of
Life program and services delivery to
improve the availability and range of
information to the Total Force. Using
five modern telecommunication media -
the Internet, Internet simulcasting,
satellite broadcasting, teleconferencing
and cable television - LIFELines is
delivering a broad range of QOL support
services globally to tens of thousands
of servicemen and women 24 hours a day,
7 days a week. The service includes
self-help information, distance
education, crisis assistance, on-line
access to professional QOL service
providers, and access to a full range of
on-line business transactions. The LSN
platform has received accolades and
recognition for the tremendous services
and resources that it provides to
servicemen and women and their families.
More information about this portal is

"As more and more
organizations turn to multimedia
development as part of their standard
Web offerings, the ability to easily
create and rapidly deploy captioned
video and audio content is critical to
the success of these projects," said
Robert B.
Yonaitis, President and CEO of
HiSoftware Company. "Captioning provides
benefits not only to the hearing
impaired, but also to those accessing
the Internet from locations or devices
that may not be sound enabled.
Captioning also provides countless
benefits for language presentation"
The Department of the Navy LIFELines
team joins a growing list of customers
turning to HiSoftware Company for

not limited to Microsoft Government,

webmasters, application developers, and
Section 508 compliance experts.
Additionally, HiSoftware’s technical
services team has been working with
LIFELines Web developers to ensure that
accessible design is incorporated into
the next iteration of the Web portal.
HiSoftware’s content quality and
accessibility solutions product line
includes a combination of user-driven
interactive desktop solutions that allow
developers to test their content for
conformance with standards, and
server-side applications that provide
managers with automated and remote
testing. A scalable architecture
provides a faster deployment time and
lower cost of ownership for the solution
set. Used together these solutions
enable developers, testers and project
teams to verify Web site accessibility
in compliance with Section 508, as well
as custom corporate-content quality
standards. More information about these
applications is available from the
