Handbook
Handbook
summarizes the results and
accessibility strategies from the
2008 European Web Dialogue Series
Nashua, NH – March 19, 2009
–HiSoftware (www.hisoftware.com),
a leading provider of software,
services and on-demand solutions
that monitor and optimize Web
content governance, quality and
regulatory compliance, announced
today it has released the Web
Accessibility Handbook, a guide to
best practices for achieving Web
accessibility. The Handbook,
co-authored with Microsoft, brings
together contributions and best
practices from the companies’ 2008
European Web Accessibility Dialogue
series, as well as supplemental
input from other Web accessibility
experts, additional resources and
technology-specific guidance.
Rob Sinclair, Director of
Accessibility for Microsoft, said, “This
handbook serves as a resource to
business managers and executives to
help them better understand and
articulate the business case for
accessibility. It may also be used
by technical Web managers and
developers to extend their level of
understanding of specific testing
techniques. Microsoft and HiSoftware
appreciate the contributions of all
of our workshop attendees which
helped to shape the content of the
Handbook.”
Throughout 2008, Microsoft and
HiSoftware partnered to hold a
series of European Dialogues on
Practical Strategies for an
Accessible Web. The Dialogues
focused on understanding the
challenges of Web accessibility and
sharing best practices to address
those challenges. Participants
included a wide range of individuals
with practical, theoretical and/or
personal experience in the Web
accessibility space, including
members of public sector and private
sector organizations, technology
vendors and NGOs. The goal
throughout these dialogues was to
not only understand the challenges
for organizations that are looking
to achieve Web accessibility, but to
closely examine some of the
solutions and strategies that are
already being employed by
organizations to accomplish their
goals. As a result of the Dialogues
a “How To” guide, the Web
Accessibility Handbook, was created.
Kurt Mueffelmann, CEO and
president of HiSoftware, stated,
“This guide brings together the
opinions and successful strategies
of some of the best thought leaders
in the accessibility space. It is a
valuable tool in helping foster the
‘culture of accessibility’ that our
dialogue participants recommended as
a fundamental accessibility
requirement for organizations using
the Web.”
