HiSoftware to
Showcase Accessibility Kit for
SharePoint at Microsoft’s Innovation
Day in Brussels
Nashua, NH — December 3, 2007 —
HiSoftware (www.hisoftware.com), a
leading provider of software,
services and managed operation
solutions that monitor and optimize
Web content, quality and regulatory
compliance, will demonstrate and
showcase their new jointly-developed
open source Accessibility Kit for
SharePoint (AKS) at Microsoft’s
Innovation Day in Brussels, Belgium
on December 4, 2007.
This annual event celebrates
living and building Europe's digital
future. Government leaders, academic
and industry stakeholders, and the
media, will be given a sneak preview
of the technologies of tomorrow. The
event will house an exhibition
looking at the digital future from a
consumer perspective, spanning
Microsoft’s future technology and
newly developed prototypes in their
early development stage.
The AKS will be one of the
solutions highlighted as part of the
exhibition. Microsoft and HiSoftware
have jointly launched the AKS which
is intended to significantly reduce
the time, knowledge, and effort
required to implement a
SharePoint-based Web site that
conforms to the World Wide Web
Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines 1.0
Priority 1 and 2 checkpoints.
Microsoft and HiSoftware have
established and will jointly nurture
a community of SharePoint site
designers and developers focused on
accessibility advancement and
standards compliance. The AKS
Community site allows Microsoft
Partners, customers and stakeholders
to dialogue with each other and
Microsoft about Accessibility best
practices, lessons learned
challenges and successes.
AKS is available at no cost via
Microsoft Public License (Ms-PL)
which was recently approved by the
OpenSource Initiative as an open
source license. Additionally AKS
utilizes an open and well documented
interface enabling the extension of
SharePoint applications to remain
accessible - above and beyond what
Microsoft provides out of the box.
Finally, AKS contains tutorials and
education-empowering others to
“build accessible”.
